No more juggling external apps or guessing HEX codes. Here’s everything you need to know.

What Is the MattoBoard Color Picker?

The Color Picker is an integrated tool within MattoBoard that lets you extract any hue from imagery - whether it’s a photograph, inspiration shot, or another paint swatch - and convert it into a fully editable paint color. Once created, these colors behave like any other MattoBoard paint: simply drag and drop them onto your material board, adjust finishes, and save them to collections.

Two Ways to Pick Your Perfect Shade:

Drag & Drop or Paste an Image

1. Select 'Create New Paint' in the 'My Materials' tab and drag & drop an image (or hit Ctrl+V/Cmd+V to paste).
   
   
2. Click anywhere on the image to sample that exact pixel’s color.
   
   
3. Watch the HEX code populate automatically - and see your new swatch appear in the paint preview.
   
   

Tip: Use close-up photos of real paint chips or lifestyle imagery to capture the exact undertone you want.

Sample Directly from Your Board

1. Switch to the 'From Board' tab in the Color Picker.
   
   
2. Hover over any existing board element (walls, upholstery, accent pieces, images) to preview its color.
   
   
3. Click to sample, adjust finish if needed, and save as a new paint swatch.
   
   

Use Case: Harmonize an accent wall with a textile or photo that’s already on your MattoBoard.

Getting Started & Next Steps

1. Open any existing board or start a new one.
   
   
2. Click ‘My Materials’ in the left menu tab and select ‘Create New Paint’.
   
   
3. Color pick away - your freshly created paint swatches will live in your ‘My Materials’ tab and can be dragged directly onto your board and added to your material collections.
