Every year in September, designers and A&D brands descend on Paris to attend Maison & Objet’s beautiful show in the suburbs of Paris while inside the city, pop-ups, galleries and expositions fill every street of the best quartiers and arrondissements with their own magic. We’ve narrowed down our favorites from this year’s contributions.

1. Carrieres Centrales

Carrieres Centrales, founded by architect and designer Sabrina Jaffal, creates furniture pieces that blend contemporary and traditional elements inspired by architectural forms, materials and techniques inspired by her hometown, Casablanca.

Based in Paris, Sabrina is no stranger to architectural excellence with experience working at some of the world’s most well-known firms including those belonging to Jean Nouvel and Phillippe Starck.

Her independent project, Carrieres Centrales, merges architecture with everyday objects, offering a unique connection between large-scale structures and intimate, human-scale designs. Materials hail from her hometown in Casablanca, where unique marble and materials are sourced. Even French first lady, Brigitte Macron, took notice of the unique designs, stopping by to learn more.

2. BEHR® Paint's New Color of the Year

BEHR® paint unveiled its color of the year with a group of distinguished designers at Paris Design Week. The event highlighted a unique palette centered around their new color of the year, Rumors, and included a tasting menu curated based on this palette. The meal beautifully incorporated several standout colors while bringing French cuisine from various regions to life.

3. "Day Bed"

Day Bed

Hidden on the property of the Hôtel de la Marine is a surprising and symbolic sight - an extra large bed smack in the middle of the courtyard.

An homage to the beds in the Apartments of the Intendants at the Hôtel de la Marine, the Uchronia Universe custom designed this creation specifically for Paris Design Week. In the center of the Cour d'Honneur, the colorful and show-stopping bed, juxtaposes the simplicity of the surrounding Hôtel.

Uchronia Universe partnered with Palet (a ceramic tile brand) to create a large version of the iconic bed while Tonester Paints unveiled a collaboration with luxury bedding brand Treca Paris to complete the installation, including an oversized, hand-stitched headboard.

4. Studio Yellowdot Eggshell furniture

Hatch Eggshell Divider

Who knew that eggshells could come in so handy? Studio Yellowdot has collected egg shells from everyday food waste to create 'Hatch,' a furniture & lighting collection.

Yellowdot's inspiration came from the pandemic and their observation of materials that might be readily available at home. To scale, they're collecting eggshell waste from local homes & bakeries, after which they are cleaned and then arranged by hand for resin to be applied and bonded. This creates a beautiful patterned texture with a transparent light effect.

Each piece created by Yellowdot is tagged with the number of estimated eggshells. Their hope is to bring awareness to everyday food waste and its potential uses.

5. Tough Cookie Studio - The Carnival of the Triangle

The Carnival of The triangle

Tough Cookie Studio is exploring the delicious combination of a colorful palette that brings happiness, just like the studio's namesake.

The designer, Aijing Tang, leveraged triangles, since they often represent male dominance, and incorporated colors and spheres to symbolize a blurring of gender in society.

The collection also brings into focus a sweet sensation contrasted with the bitterness of life, encouraging others to explore various sides of personality in life in an effort to spread joy.

6. Romero Paprocki

Romero Paprocki gallery

Designer Valentin Bony has teamed up with Mario Picardo to offer a collection of furniture inspired by childhood play at the Romero Paprocki gallery.

The collection aims to evoke the feeling of being in a playground, a place where adventure and exploration was rewarded and imagination was transformative. A slide or swing could actually be a spaceship or castle

The project explores rounded shapes and colors inspired by these playgrounds and brings Mario Picardo's colorful palette to interior furniture spreading the joy of childhood.

The collection should not be confused with children's furniture. It is very much for adults as a reminder to question the relationship that society has with age and what messages are projected, especially in a time when youthfulness is "staying young" is confronting us at every turn.

7. Testa dei Marmi

Testa dei Marmi

Berenice Curt Architecture presented its first collectible design, the Testa dei Marmi collection, featuring sculptures inspired by the traditional Sicilian Testa di Moro ceramics. The centerpiece, 001TDM, offers a modern reinterpretation - a marble, androgynous head that reflects Berenice Curt’s deep fascination with the artistic expression of the human head in various forms. Skillfully crafted by Tuscan artisans from Carrara marble, the pieces highlight the natural beauty of the stone’s veining and color.
